Smith and Wesson Model 1 3rd issue
I just bought a couple of boxes of gun stuff at an auction and inside found a decent S&W Model 1 3rd issue but missing it's cylinder. Otherwise it is in pretty good condition. Serial number 56344 puts it in the mid 1870's. Bore is good and overall hardly any rust. Bird's head pistol grips are original...right grip has same serial number. Does anyone know where I could find a cylinder? I've looked at antique parts sites and haven't found anything yet.

For what it's worth, mine numbers 106XXX and letters to a large shipment from 1874. Your gun is older than you think. It's probably safe to say maybe around 1870. Finding a cylinder will likely be near impossible. They are so tiny. You will probably just have to search shops and shows for an old incomplete beater and hope for a nice cylinder. I've taken years in some cases looking for a part. Neat looking gun. The top screw is much nicer than mine. Here's a picture of the one I picked up last year. You can safely shoot 22 Short CB Caps in these things. . .when you find a cylinder.

Funny that this thread should come up I just found some .22 CB today at our local flea market to shoot in mine. I shot it at 7 or 8 yards with a center of chest POA all seven shots went into the head neck region.
