Default Help with identification of my Safety Hammer

Hallo colleagues, today i bought SW New Departure 2nd Model, cal. .38 DA, 3 1/4 barrel, nickel plated (cca 85%), mother in pearl grips, in quite good order. The matching serial Number on the butt, the cylinder and on the latch there is 18290. Would You be so kind and let me know, the approximate production date? From what I know, this very 2nd Model was under production from July 1887 to August 1890. Any help would be appreciate. Best regards, Jan.

Your title of the thread is a little confusing. The Safety revolver was hammerless, not hammer?? If you have a hammerless revolver, you have a 38 Safety, 2nd Model, made from 1887 and 1890. The gun should have a push-button latch, rather than a lift-up latch. Your serial number would indicate it shipped around 1888, if it is a hammerless revolver.

Hello Jan, happy to see a S&W guy in Eastern Europe. It would be fun to see how that got to your country, Best, Borkovic.

Hallo Dean, thank You very much for Your kind answer and big help, You helped me already twice in last two weeks. Mea culpa, I do appologize for a confusing title of the thread, I did not realize it. Yes, I have the Safety Hammerless cal. 38 DA 2nd Model with a push-button latch. So, by Your estimated date should be certainly correct. Sorry for my English.
Yours truly, Jan.

Hallo Mike, there in Czech Republic are on market a lot of imported Antique SWs, Colts, Remingtons, Merwin Hulberts, Hopkins Allens, Harringtons, Iver Johnsons etc. and other antique guns from rest of Europe as well. It may be caused by the fact, that in our country (in Slovakia as well) there are still quite benevolent laws concerning possession of antique firearms made before December 31st 1890. Best regards, Jan.
