I asked Roy jinks this question a couple years ago and he said that the companies that make the repo grips with the S&W logo on them do not have a license from S&W to use the logo, in most cases. However, S&W does not figure it's worth the hassle to try to stop them and as long as they are just making copies of S&W grips, they do not get sued. If, however, someone starts using a S&W trade mark or logo on a product that is not a repo, and do not have a license agreement with S&W, then they can look to trouble from S&W. S&W is overly generous in issuing licenses, in my opinion, as you can hardly keep up with the items you see at the SHOT Show and online (Ebay), that have S&W logos on them. Members in good standing of the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association have been granted the right to use, by S&W, the S&W logo on displays and activities promoting the collecting of S&Ws. Ed
