looking for help with my S&W model 3
Does anyone know where I could get a hand and sear for my S&W model 3 in the .38 S&W? I was told the part is on page 312 line 4, but I'm not sure what the name of the book is. I have called numerous shops and looked all over Google and have not found anything. I'll take an original, used, new or manufactured piece. Does anyone out there know someone that could help me with this?

Try Gun Parts Corporation (AKA. Numrich Arms) or Jack First in North(?) Dakota. I suspect that you have a .38 Double Action, 3rd. Model. (?) The description: "model 3" can apply to many of the S&W Models. As a help in identifying you revolver; there is a button at the top of this forum titled "How to identify your gun" or some such wording. It's well worth reading. And, welcome to the forum.

You have an online encyclopedia of experienced collectors and repairmen / gunsmiths here. If you post a few pix of the gun you'll get detailed response. As Mike points out you need to accurately identify the gun. Model 3 alone has several variations and sub-variations.
My gut is that you have a bad hammer / trigger assembly, likely needing a few more parts, too.
Once identified as to model and exact parts required you should evaluate if it is worth the repair or not. For example, few New Model 3's lasted the test of time graciously because before they became collectible they were just old, out-dated guns.
These old parts are no longer manufactured and if it is a New Model 3, the parts you are looking for are as scarce as hen's teeth.
Post some pix and we'll gladly help you out.

FYI - Jack First Gun Parts is in Rapid City, SOUTH Dakota. They do have a somewhat impressive cache of old S&W parts - or at least they did 15 years ago. I picked through several bins of old top-break parts and found some extinct parts. I do not know how much they still have.
