Default Two Old S&W's

Saw two nice S&W's at the local gun shop yesterday, One was the American that looked to be at least 90% or better, the bore was pristine. The other was a Schofield in nice condition, but had the barrel at 5 inches, that is cut down correct?

IIRC: Wells-Fargo purchased the Schofields from Army surplus and had the barrels cut back to five inches.

You should be buying them both. then showing them off. A picture would have been nice.
I would be very interested to find out how many emails and PMs you received for the shop details. If you were here in Oz I would have been one of them.

1.) Lack of funds large enough to purchase either.
2.) None, zero, nada..........

Surplus Schofields were sold to 3 major suppliers. All were then experlty reconditioned by the suppliers and sold off to many types of buyers. San Fransico PD (left those in full length barrels) and Wells Fargo as the most notable buyer, cut to 5", however, the many of the surplus guns were cut to 5", offered to the public market.

That it is a 5" does not automatically preclude it was a Wells Fargo gun. Naturally a WF gun would be so marked and numbered in more places than S&W originally numbered the parts.

Further, there are more Wells Fargo fakes (Fake WF stamping) then there are genuine Wells Fargos.
