Help me I.D my top break .44
I have a Top Break I believe in .44 Russian, by the attached pics could I get a year and value? Serial # 401XX top of barrel stamped Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA patd jan 17 24 65 july 11 65 aug 24 69 july 25 71 dec 2 79 may 11,25 1880. Was nickel plate but 90% gone. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! What you have there I believe is a 44 double action first model. These frames were all made before 1899 and are therefore antiques.

A lot is going to depend on Mech. Cond. and Bore Cond. as to Value Jugdish. What you have is a 'shooter' at best; these are only Collectable if they have a high percentage of Original Finish.
I think a Good Shooter might be worth around $500 - Retail
There will be others here with more first hand knowledge of what these are going for privately, but we will still need to know how the condition is and if all the SNs Match up, etc.

If you look at the pic of the top of the barrel, you will see some brown in the chambers, Plus its a re-fin. Its an interesting desk curio. Best.

I have a 4" barreled with considerable original nickel finish remaining (222xx) that lettered to 1890. It's also .44 Russian. The last time I saw one sell on Gun Broker (years ago), it fetched $750.00
