Straight Line Roper Letter
In 1926 Smith & Wesson put out a letter on the virtues of the .22 Straight Line signed by Walter Roper. One side of the letter was a picture of the Straight Line 11" x 17" with the caption "This gun Succeeds a World-Record maker!" On the reverse, the left side had a description of the features, like it has a 10" barrel yet no longer than a 6" barrel revolver! It also describes the adjustable trigger for both strength and depth of engagement! and other features. (See Picture). The right side is a letter signed by Walter Roper. He points out the picture on the reverse is full size! Again, he goes over the new features and also says the Straight will ship in about thirty days. The date of the letter is January 26, 1926.

Ernie, One thing I've never seen is a Straight-line shipped with Roper stocks. Have you ? If so, do you have same in your collection and can post a photo for us ? I think it's a pretty good bet there are some, especially with Walter pushing the merits of the gun. Ed.

Hi Ed:
I have one Straight Line that has a pair of stunning Roper grips!! Next week when I get back, I will post several pictures. The workmanship is incredible!!!! The walnut used is stunning! I would love to know the original cost. The factory letter doesn't mention Roper grips were shipped with the Straight Line when it left the factory.

Hi, Ernie. Would love to see the Ropers on that Straightline. Nice find on that letterhead. I have a few Walter Roper letters also. I posted a few in the members forum, years ago, on S&W 22/32 paper of the same style as your Straightline. I also have a letter from Walter Roper on H&R stationery responding to a request from a customer in which he recommends a S&W Revolver.
