I would say, from Sn. , 4th Model. 1895-1909.
I COULD BE WRONG, BUT iM GETTING A HINT OF A RE-FINISH.
The hammer and trigger dont look right. Im picking up a hint of purple at the hinge? Best

That one looks right as rain to me. Hammer and trigger look as if the case colors have faded, but no refinish indicated anywhere that I can see. Shipped around 1906-1910 time-frame. The company did not ship in serial number order and after the introduction of the hand ejector revolvers, the top-breaks started to loose their popularity. 38 S&W revolvers are great fun at the range. I have a 38 DA in 6", which was the longest standard barrel offered on this model.

Yep, later 4th Model. Maybe around 1908ish.
Could be a Re-blue; doesn't seem to have that real Royal Blue Colour, but 105 years of Atmosphere can do all manner of things to Blueing.
I have a soft spot (no doubt in my head) for the long barrelled 38 DAs too, especially the Blue ones!! Very nice Gun No7!!
Come to think of it; I have a soft spot for the Short Barrelled ones too!!

Well, the pins and screws look good. And there is no gap at the plate seam.
I guess the pics do not show the real condition. Finish still does not pop.
So, I was wrong. Gee, never happened before. Best.

You know that the only way to really tell a refinish is to have the gun in hand. Pictures are never good enough to be 100% sure either way. I notice that the wear patterns look like they have taken a long time to appear, plus those conditions you have mentioned, help tip the scale towards original, at least for me. I can compare that gun to a 38 Single Action, 3rd Model (Model 1891) I own from the same era and am certain it is original. Color of bluing is the same except mine has more patina showing through the bluing than the OPs.
