Default Help with top break identification

Here is what I know so far:
No model number
32 smith Wesson (short) Chamber length 0.607”
Barrel inside diameter .307”
Nickel Finish
Top break
Visible hammer
Automatic cartridge ejection
SN: 148### on bottom of grip
3.5” barrel
Fixed sights
Has a strain screw in front of grip
No lanyard ring
One screw at frame/barrel pivot
One screw at open lever/rear sight
One screw at side access panel
One screw in front of grip (strain screw)

When was this revolver made? What is the model?
It functions as a double action now, but when I thumb back the hammer it feels as if a single action catch once worked. If I got replacement parts would this gun function as a single and double action?

Welcome to the Forum. You have a 32 Double Action, 4th Model that would have shipped around 1890. It is made in 32 S&W (not short) caliber and is classified as an antique. Most likely the sear is either worn or chipped that holds the hammer in single action mode. An experienced gunsmith should be able to fix your issue unless parts are broken. 32 DAs are prone to this problem. tlay is a member of the Forum here and is expert at this repair. He might be willing to take on this project. You could send him a private message and ask.

There is a situation with the sideplate that is not right. Normally, the fit of this part is perfect and the seam should be almost invisible. Someone might have attempted a refinish in the past.

FWIW, the gun was refinished...
