S & W 32 safety 3"
I am new to collecting and bought my first gun at an auction. I have a 32 safety and what appears to be the original box. Trying to figure out if I made a good buy and if this is the right start to collecting. Serial number is 232xx. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Welcome to the Forum. Whether you made a good buy depends on what you paid, but you have an excellent start to becoming addicted to S&Ws! S&Ws sold thousands of these Safety Hammerless model revolvers, called " Lemon Squeezers" by collectors, so they are not rare, however the ones sought after are like you have purchased - near new condition in a correct original box. Your gun is a first model .32 Safety Hammerless of the three models made ( an antique under ATF rules )and if the box is original to the gun, it should have the serial number of the gun penciled on the bottom and the instruction printed on the inside of the lid should match the method of releasing the barrel latch to open the gun. ( There are different latch mechanisms and instructions vary accordingly.) Ed.

Welcome to the Forum. You have a very nice 32 Safety Hammerless, 1st Model revolver that would have shipped most likely in 1890. Take a look on the bottom of the box and see if you can make out a serial number? Boxes for 32 Safeties come up for sale from time to time and are not high priced, so I would say that the value of one in your condition is around $75. As for the gun, a quarter-million 32 Safeties were made, so value is relatively low, maybe $300 or a little more in the condition as shown in your photos. Hope you enjoy your purchase.

$300, you made a good buy, especially with the box. Nice nickel, nice case
on the trigger, perfect grips. Yea, nice buy and good start. Best.
