2nd model American/1st Russian commercial
Does anyone have experience with Wally Francis, (1-262-626-4964, address W9154 Brazelton Dr., Kewaskum, WI, 53040) for work on old S&Ws?
I recently purchased a 2nd model American/1st Russian commercial. The trigger sear is broken off. I would like to have it repaired.
Thx,

Jim, I don't know him or his work. I will say I had Bob Cogan of Home - ACCURATE PLATING AND WEAPONRY rebuild a Colt SAA hammer that someone had Bubba'd. The notches were completely gone and he had to build up the metal and recut them. He uses a dental drill with special cutters and does excellent work.

I have a Russian 3rd model that we can use for the template. They are only about 20 miles from me.

Is it strictly the trigger sear ? Usually the hammer notches are blown ( or previously re-sharpened by file) ? If you give me the measurements, i have a few New Model 3 triggers and a a few other similar that I don't know exactly what they fit but are large frame single actions. Sal

Does everyone know that there are two types of hammers and triggers used in the S&W American model? They are not interchangeable. On the early type, the cylinder stop is actuated by the hammer, and on the later type, and all subsequent number 3 revolvers. the cylinder stop is actuated by the trigger.

Commercials before about serial 19000 will have the hammer activated stop and a square tip trigger. ALL Russian first contracts have this same trigger and hammer.

Commercials above about 19000 have the trigger and hammer introduced with the second Russian contract. This features a trigger activated cylinder stop and a pointed trigger.
The stop, trigger and hammer are not interchangeable between the models.

Thx Sal, my trigger is nickel with lots of the original nickel. I'll have to determine which hammer and trigger I have based on Tom's info above.

Thanks for the info and pictures, Joe. I can never remember which is earlier, the round or square trigger. I just hold the trigger back and start cocking the gun. If the cylinder revolves, it is the early model.
