I know the gun is rare because I don't have one and can't find one. I think the correct gun for this box is the first model 32 hand ejector from the 1890's. The SN on the box is 17651. The box is in excellent condition. I got it off EBAY when the seller listed it wrong and nobody saw it. Cost me $60. I think the correct gun is that funny little 32 where you pull on the ejector rod to open the cylinder. . .no side latch. Is that correct? I thought I was buying a box for a 32 I had (I have so many) and then discovered I don't think I have the gun.
That box would be for a Model 1896, (32 HE, 1st). Serial number is late in production, maybe 1900-1901. You bought well and think it would sell for maybe $150 or more to a collector with a blued 3 1/4" gun. You do see them for sale, but not often found.
Forgot to say that you can remedy the situation by purchasing a gun that matched the label.
Yes I passed because it is for a blue not a nickle like mine .Which I fell into with the letter stating that it was shipped to P. Bekeart on 4/30/1897.
