Default Model 3 Russian (Belgian copy - H. Pieper)

I own a S&W Model 3 Russian type (Belgian copy by H. Pieper). Letter markings “RM” for Republica Mexicana. It has all matching serial numbers, original grips, original length barrel, trigger guard finger hook but only about 15% original finish. Does anyone have any ideas on the value of these foreign copies? I see one for sale on the internet for $2295. That seems high but then the original S&W model 3's with that finish are much higher.

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, forum rules do not allow discussions of current items for sale. I would edit your original post an remove any reference to the sale. General questions about value may be discussed. FWIW.

In my experience, foreign copies of S&Ws have very little value and appeal to collectors only as oddities. The exception being the Ludwig Lowe copies and the Russian copies by Tula or other Russian armories. Ed.

I concur with Dad ( Ed oopefc ). Ludwig & Loew (spelling) and Tula copies are higher grade.

Mexican, South American and Spanish copies usually show up in awful and prematurely worn condition from shoddy materials and workmanship.

While Belgian made guns are a good quality (as referring to Belgian Brownings and the like) the Belgian #3 copies are usually just flat out awful.

I would not suggest you even consider the purchase you mentioned, especially if you cannot do a "hands on" inspection of it.
