Help to identify an old smith and wesson revolver
I received this revolver to do some work on it.
But the trigger is missing now!
Well, im trying to discover wich model it is.
Maybe a model 3? But, i need more info to try to replace the missing trigger.
Its a 4" barrel, top-break, as you can see in the photos.
Serial 395072

Welcome! There is only one S & W top-break revolver that reached that high of a serial number, so it must be a .38 Double Action. It probably dates to about 1899.
Not sure what work is being requested, but it appears you have quite a chore on your hands if someone wants a functioning and un-rusted gun. Good luck.

Welcome to the Forum. You are missing a whole lot more than a trigger. Not sure what you are looking to do with that revolver, but I think you have what used to be a 38 Double Action, 4th Model that would have shipped around 1900.

Welcome to the Forum. The above info. is correct, it's a .38 Double Action, 4th model. Your best source of correct parts is to find an inexpensive junker gun at a gun show, of the same model, to salvage the needed parts..Trying to buy parts from dealers, like Numrich, Jack Frost, etc., usually winds up in getting he wrong part & you have to return it, etc. Bottomline is you are going to have far more $$ in this gun than it will ever be worth. Unless you're looking for a challenge and willing to spend much more than it's worth you'll be better off just finding something similar in working order. In that condition what you've got is probably worth $25 to $50.

That one is going to cost more than its worth to repair. I am not even sure it is a Smith and Wesson.

Unless you are looking to make it into an educational project (and it will be an education) you will save considerable money and time by finding another .38 DA in better workable condition. There were about a half-million of them made in several variations, so they are easy to find and not very expensive. The only .38 DAs with any significant value are those in like-new condition.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! If you are in the US, you may find a trigger on eBay or at this parts dealer.

The hammer looks odd for a .38 DA.
