Default Smith & Wesson Single Action 32 S&W question

I just acquired a Smith & Wesson Single Action 32 S&W. The serial number is 80796. It has black grips and does not have a trigger guard. When was this gun made? The gun appears to be in working condition. What might this gun be worth?

Value can only be determined by inspection of condition and functionality, so without pictures, there can be no guess. It probably shipped from the factory around 1890.

Gunbroker has many, SW Model 1 1/2, 32 Rimfire guns for sale.

Beat to death and little finish, but firing condition, as low as $199.

Non-firing as low as $95.

Box, papers, perfect condition, $900+.

Marked 32 S&W would make it a center fire, ammunition is available, and it would be worth more than the same made as a rim fire

Not necessarily. I believe the Model 2 would be worth quite a bit more than the 32 SA in the same condition.

There were two versions of the S&W Mod 1 1/2. The Rim fire and the center-fire. The center fire version you can still buy ammunition for, it is often referred to (incorrectly) as the .32 S&W short.

Yo will note the "rim fire" are the three at the top, which are "tip ups", and the center fire are the 2 at the bottom, which are "break tops"

This gun is tight and appears to be capable of firing. I have ordered some Magtech 32 S&W ammo from Sportsman's Guide. I have not seen a caliber on the gun anywhere. I tried some 32 S&W long ammo which was too long of course. The latest patent date is Dec. 18, 1877. The serial number is 80796. I am amazed at how tight this gun is with it being made 130 years old. The quality this gun was made with is impressive.

Unfortunately, previous owners did not take good care of the finish, so your value will be quite low, probably in the $150 range today.

Hello Mr. 67, you have a classic turn of the century pocket carry gun.
They were exposed to pocket crud and never got much attention as far as care. Some made it to the socket drawer. Best

FYI, I have s/n 88373 which shipped Aug 1887. I'd guess yours would have been that spring some time. Maybe Apr May 1887.
