Hey fellas, I acquired an S&W frontier that is missing the main spring that connects to the hammer stirrup and the short curved spring that connects to the trigger.

Is there a modern(ish) S&W model (N/K/J frame?) revolver that uses the same springs? I'm okay with some shop work to modify if needed.

Long shot: any way these springs from an italian clone Model 3 would work??

I have not tried to use reproduction parts, but the Uberti S&Ws all have a similar trigger spring and mainspring as used by original S&Ws. In one of David Chicoine's book, he states that the mainspring on Italian copies are altered from the shape of the original, but no reference as to whether they will work or not.

Springs of the type requested are some of the easiest things to make there are, by modifying generic springs from suppliers like Brownells, Wolfe, etc. or making them from scratch from strips of spring metal that are heated , annealed, etc. to working strengths. Many of the Italian repo gun springs can be used in older guns, with very little modifications. It's not rocket science. Ed.

I made a very satisfactory spring for a replica Schofield from the annealed spring stock from Brownell's. I heated one end red hot and forged the hooks, filed the correct taper for thickness and width, then bent to the correct curvature. Heated the whole spring to bright red and quenched in oil. I polished it bright and tempered it in my home oven at its highest setting. The spring ended up a nice blue color, and has served very well for more than 20 years. The replica was marketed by Navy Arms Co., and except for the improperly heat treated (soft) mainspring is very well made and finished.

Thanks for the additional info. I think I'll get uberti springs and make any needed modifications. I'll let you guys know how it works out. T
