New Model #3 Target Value?
I bought this NM3 Target in France 1951 for $18 in a used funiture store & carried it around in Africa for a year or so, wondering what it's value might be now --
Bore .44 Russ is perfect, has VM monogram engraved behind the hammer & "FINI PAR GASTINNE RENETTE" engraved in tiniest letters behind left muzzle, lanyard ring in butt, lettered shipped to France 1906. Any info appreciated ----->

Probably in the nieghborhood of 2K, but you need to have a real S&W expert look it over to get an accurate appraisal.

I agree about getting it appraised. I think it would bring $2000 to $3000.

I would tend to agree. Seems like a nice, honest gun. If the mechanical condition is excellent, it clasps shut TIGHT, functions nice and crisp, with now cylinder shake when cocked ... and ... (more than likely it will ) all the serial numbered parts match, Don is correct.
I like the NM3s with the French dealers' scroll on it. I have only had one in my life with a French Dealer's scroll on it. I was so anxious to letter it be it came back shipped to Shuyler, Hartley and Graham in NYC. Duh on me. SH&G were the major European exporters for S&W.
The amount of blue that has thinned from handling and age is less important to me than the mechanical condition and function.
However, on a similar piece with the metal is as original ... clean and smooth like yours, with deep markings, but sporting 95% of the original blue, would bring twice that and upward.
PS: I can better the previous offer of $20 that someone so generously offered you. Keep in touch with us here if you truly wish to part with it. I like it !!

Very nice SW, with the sign of the greatest gunmaker and gun retailer in France.
Gastinne Renette was the gunsmith of the high society and the best shooter and hunter in Paris.
They sold a lot of SW, Colt and Webley, often with very rare options and accessories. My Webley RIC, sold by Gastinne Renette, have a detachable stock, only a handfull known in the world ...
Your SW is interesting with this rare sign and was probably cased in the past with accessories.
A exemple here:
Bient^ot No"el !
I have see one in a auction with SW screwdriver and SW factory reloading tool.
The price of this cased SW by Gastine Rennete was near 5.000 €
