Hello Mike, what a real beauty. It hid from the ravages of a century.
These SH 32s are coming out of the closest. Nice little gun. Best

The latch and the extractor star both being nickle plated probably indicates a re finish. It sure does look nice for a gun over 100 years old. Whoever did it did an excellent job.

Default Re-finish

If a refinish it's a little disappointing.
More pics. Sights blue and top piece above cylinder blued ???
The small lettering with the patent dates is clear and defined??
Bottom of latch blue.
But you guys would know better than i.
Take a look.
Thanks
Mike

With those new pictures I would come around to think it's original finish.

Default Finish

Hi all
Looking around the Internet some have blue parts where you mentioned and some nickel. I guess that isn't definitive as some may have been refinished.
Anyways I like it alot. Paid $375.00 seems fair.
One side plate screw is buggered I will start searching for a replacement.
Thanks for your time
Mike

A lot of times when an old Smith & Wesson revolver has been
non-factory refinished, parts that should be blued or case
hardened are refinished too. Yours still has the blued trigger
guard and CC trigger. So good chance it's original.

That little peashooter looks pretty razor-sharp for a replate. With those edges, lettering, pin ends and checkering, I'd have to vote kosher as well.

Yours doesn't look refinished, but...

If the ejector star and thumb latch originally were blued--and yours are not--it strongly suggests a refinish, No matter how original your gun looks. Also, wear to the grips, although minimal, does appear greater than to metal surfaces.

Time and time again, I have tried to "justify" why a particular gun may be different than most, or all, the rest out there, and, unless early and slightly different due to a design change, or a prototype, no matter how good the gun looks, in the end, scrutiny proves that refinish, entire or in part, explains the discrepancy. And, it makes sense. Why would your gun have a nickel plated thumb latch and extractor star, when others in the serial range of yours, and this being a mass produced item, do not. A very good refinish, and probably only select parts, but a refinish nonetheless.
