That would be a very hard gun to improve on ! It's hard to tell from the photo, but are the stocks numbered to the gun? They are the early style w/o the logo and I would expect that a serial number in that range would not still have the early style, however S&W never threw away anything they could use later, so early style things can show up on later guns. Too bad the box is not as pristine as the gun. The gun's value in Canada is different than in the US, so I can't give you a good estimate, but it would certainly be in the upper ranges of a .38SA, 2nd Model. Ed.

Thanks for the reply and yes the stocks are numbered to the gun.I got it out of Montreal and was told that everything is original to the gun.

Supica and Nahas 4th ed. book lists .38SA 2nd Model as $1500 As New In Box and $600 Excellent. I would believe that to be US dollars. That is one nice revolver!

That's the nicest one of those I've ever seen. That's the kind of gun I'd expect to see in a museum.

That is very nice and in not a refinish, that is in excellent condition for a gun that old. There are places that can restore the box but they are not cheap. I had one estimated that looked like it had been run over and was quoted $400. I would think that the box in your photo would be half that cost assuming that you want to bring it back to the condition that the gun warrants. Some folks consider that blasphemy however.
