Default Identify 1800s revolver

Hello all,

I am looking for information on this s&w revolver. It has patent dates on top of the barrel with the latest being 1880. It is a top break with a fixed sight and barrel length of 3 1/4 inches. We thought it was a .32 caliber but after looking at pictures of similar guns we figure it might be a .38. The serial number looks like 19416, but if you look at the picture you can see there may have been another digit at the end that is missing.

Looking for any information you can give, particularly the year and value. Thanks.

It's a .38 Double action. SN 19416 would make it a Second Model, and your 1880 dating is likely correct. It uses .38 S&W ammunition, not .38 Special. Sort of difficult to find, but it is available. .38 DAs in general are very common, and only those in top condition have any interest to collectors.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! That's a double action second model and would sell for less than $200 in my area.

Sorry Weatherman, with that finish and those chipped grips, it is fairly common. Not much value.
