Old S&W 38
I inherited a S&W 38, 5 shot, safety, hammerless, 4th rev., 6" barrel revolver with serial # 188327. I'm trying to find a manufacturing date and an approximate worth. Will post pictures, any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you

I'm guesstimating 1902. No idea on value, but I'm sure somebody will. Book says 1898-1907.

Close serial numbers were shipped in mid 1905. That's no guarantee your gun followed suit, as S&W did not ship guns in serial number sequence. Assuming the gun is mechanically OK and all parts are original and the serial number matches on the parts, including the stocks, I would estimate value to be in the range of $400 to $475. A six inch barrel is a slight premium, but these guns are not rare. Ed.

Thank you, all the serial numbers match and the gun is in good working order. Will probably keep the gun but at least I know what I have now, thanks again.

Thanks for the welcome mat folks and thanks for the info on my revolver. My father in law passed about a month ago and this is one of his guns I inherited. I'm definitely gonna keep it in our family, it's good to know what it is and what it's worth, thanks again...

I've got one like this
Following the discussion and possible dating, I would assume if my serial number is lower, it would be older? - as the gun in some old advertising suggest this is a concealable gun- with a 6" barrel? Possible a holster gun? [email protected]
38 Cal "break open" with 6" barrel nickel, Ser # 83578 from the butt-stock. 5 shot . In researching this gun, the top barrel marketing are imprinted as-
