.32 Safety Hammerless c. 1937
I received this today from an online auction house. Honestly, I love the nickel and mother of pearl combination. I've read the S&W Standard Catalog and noted that many of the Safety Hammerless revolvers left the factory with missing markings. As you can see this revolver is missing the S&W logo. I do not see anything that points to a refinished gun. So, what do the experts say? Although hard to photograph the trigger is not nickel and has not been refinished. The case hardening is long gone but I don't see any signs of refinishing on the trigger.

Well, I'm not an expert, but although the markings may be missing, the stocks/grips are really beautiful. You might need some close-up photos, especially of markings, in order for the experts to ascertain whether or not the nickel is original. Nice gun.

That is not a refinish, (unless they also re-cut all the markings). It is not entirely unusual for a S&W logo to be missing. That is a really nice looking 32 SH.

Thanks, I didn't think it was a refinish either. The pictures online were the usual one picture kinda blurry type. I took a chance because of the mother of pearl stocks. I then noticed there wasn't a S&W medallion where it should be. I'm very pleased considering the price.

S&W suspended the intertwined logo on all their revolver line around WW1 and added it back bout 1919. It is unlikely that your revolver would have been shipped any later that that date. If you supply the serial number, we can nail down the ship date.
Very nice 32 Safety that looks totally original to me.

.32 Safety Hammerless c. 1937
That what has me so confused. My guess is just a missed S&W logo missing and a ship date somewhere in the 30s. With S&W you can never tell. Either way I paid a hammer price of 180.00 which equates to about 240.00 with buyer premiums and transfer fees. Needless to say I was surprised when it arrived in the condition it's in even with the missing S&W logo.

I believe glowe is correct as stated above. It is not refinished unless done by the factory and there should be a STAR after the serial number on the butt if done there. Very nice example you own.

I think you stole that one! The grips are probably worth what you paid.

That serial number puts the ship date around 1917-1918. Officially, you have a 32 Safety, Third Model, Hammerless, New Departure revolver . . . not really . . . but it is a 3rd Model made from 1909 to 1937, serial numbers 170,000 - 242,981.

WOW! I would have never known it shipped that early. So the reason it doesn't have the logo is because it was suspended on the revolvers during that time. Thanks so much! I have learned something else about S&W and thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks so much for the information on this revolver and the kind remarks. I'll try and do my part to make sure it is around for the next generation to enjoy.
