Default Anyone buy this fantastic auction 44 russian model 3 outfit today

My wallet wasn't large enough for this great piece of history today. Did anyone here pick it up? Sheriff Tom Irvan model 3. Short barrel with ivories, gun belt, holster and badge for Custer Co, MT. It was at Cuevas auction lot 276 (8/25/2017). Sn 13977. I thought it was a great lot and probably worth the $3800 it went for, plus 20% BP.

I guess I am a purist, but that gun doesn't turn me on with the cut barrel and no finish. Could you make out the mark on the holster in the original pictures? The rig by itself might have a true value of $1200 to $1500, so the intrinsic value of the owner must be $3000.

The fact it was owned by a known lawman from Montana with the addition the badge is what makes it cool to me. That kind of provenance makes it impossible to calculate value ahead of the sale.

I recall it was a Montana makers mark on the holster. That's all I can remember. Marian Brothers in Miles City I think it says.

The holster stamp says "Moran Bros Miles City, MT". Miles City is the seat of Custer County.

How good was the provenance ? Are there old photos of the Sheriff wearing the rig ? I've seen many of these LEO six guns reported to be the real thing, and the serial number shows up on an old data base, or catalog, as a sale in the past. I recently informed a major auction house that a Schofield with extensive documentation ( all fake ) that it belonged to a member of the Billy the Kid's posse, had been sold a couple years earlier by Old Town Station as a plain gun. The pulled the gun and exposed the consigner. Ed.

Sorry about that, les.b ! I like good story with the best of them ! Speaking of stories, I have this old gun that belong to BigFoot. He was at a Sasquash family reunion , had too much to drink, and we made a trade for a bag of jelly beans that Ronald Reagan once gave me from his desk in the Oval office. I know it's real 'cause e BigFoot said so and he stepped on it by mistake when hiding from a TV crew looking for him, and now it's bent double. Maybe you can fix it? Price $5,000. Only one known! Ed.

I'm with Gary on this one. I don't "get" all the fuss given the shabby condition and lesser known LEO of yesteryear.
