Looking for some indentification help
I picked up a few items this past weekend including these pistols in what looks to be the original boxes. I think I came to the right place for a little help in identifying what models these are and maybe a feel for what the value is... many thanks in advance

Now, that is a three-of-a-kind to draw to! Congratulations and where did you pick them up?

These were from an estate and part of a collection that I purchased. I am not a top-break collector, but when I see something old, in nice condition and in an original box I usually bite.

Are the boxes numbered to the guns? Do I see a nice trigger guard on the DA? Ed.

The first one has what looks to be a matching numbered box although the number is barely visible. The second one, the box has a different penciled number. The third one, the box has nothing written on the bottom.

"Do I see a nice trigger guard on the DA? Ed." NICE should be the word 'NICKEL'. Are we seeing reflected light or is that trigger guard really nickeled?

Ed asked if it was a "NICE" trigger guard and Mike tried to explain that Ed probably meant is it a "NICKEL" trigger guard on the DA?
S&W usually put blue trigger guards on their nickel guns so if the trigger guard is nickel and not blue, then the gun has most likely been refinished outside of the factory.
We are reluctant to use terms like "NEVER" or "ALWAYS" with S&W's because the company was in business to make money and would usually respond to a customer's specific request if the request was doable and the customer was willing to pay any charge for the work.

Hello Foxcarbine
The first is a 38 SA 2nd model 1877/1891 108000 produced.
32 SA 1878/1892 97000 prod.
32 DA 4th model 1883/1909 240000 produced.
My best guess.

I thank you for that information as I was unaware. Is there anyway for me to tell if this trigger guard may have been refinished. Honestly, my eye is pretty good and I do not see signs that would lead me to believe a refinish difference especially since it looks like it is pinned in. Would some better pictures help you determine what this is?

foxcarbine, I forgot my manners; Welcome to the forum. The revolver doesn't look refinished to my eyes either. The curiosity is the nickel appearing trigger guard. JSR III's comment is spot on.

If you search s & w 32 da 4th model images you will see some with blue trigger guards and casehardened triggers but also some with nickel plated guards and triggers.
Only a factory letter or professional exam would verify (maybe)

For anyone interested, these have been listed on GB starting at $1.00 and NO RESERVE! That's right, highest bidder gets the goods.
