Welcome to the forum! You might want to consider posting pix if possible. It'll help greatly in answering your questions if other members can determine the specific model as well as the condition of the weapon. Again, WELCOME!
Later!

Welcome to the Forum. If it is a S&W, you have a 38 Safety, 2nd Model that would have been shipped around 1890. 38 Safety revolvers are very low value guns, partly because about a quarter-million were made.
An average condition gun with wear and tear could bring $200 as long as it functions properly. Check out the Identify Your Gun link and supply the needed information to help us help you. To IDENTIFY your Gun >

The bad thing about most S&W top break .32 and .38 revolvers (both hammer and hammerless) is that there were very large quantities of them made and they are not rare at all. Many spent their lives in someone's bedside nightstand drawer, therefore there are quite a few which survived in high condition. Unless in very high condition (and with original box), there is just not very much collector interest in them. As shooters, most in average condition would sell for around $200-$300 depending upon condition. My very first S&W was a 4th Model DA I bought in the late 1960s for around $100, in excellent condition, maybe 90-95%. I still have it, but feel I would be fortunate to be able sell it for more than $250 today.

Depends. Need pics. Lemon squeezers were very common and typically cost $200 or so today. They were the Toyota Corolla of their day. However there are a few that are worth more
