Default S&W 1 1/2

I was helping my Mom move some old furniture around yesterday and on top of an armoire I found a little green box. Inside is what looks to me to be a S&W 1 1/2 with 3" barrel in 32 S&W. It seems to be in good shape and everything functions properly. The box is in good shape as well and inside is a cleaning brush and rod. The serial number is 44xxx.

I own a number of S&W pistols including a couple different gen 59 series 9mm's, a model 36, a model 27 and more recent M&P Shield. Both the 36 and 27 I received from my Dad before he passed so I'm surprised that he had this 1 1/2 hidden away. I'm guessing that maybe he forgot about it. I'm not really a collector but more of a practical shooter hence my selection of .38/357 and 9mm's. I'm hoping the experts here can give me a little more info as to the year of mfg and a rough idea of value of this little pistol before I take it down to the local shop to be looked at. Just want to have a bit of info in my back pocket to make sure I'm getting an honest appraisal.

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to the Forum. Very nice find! Please post the serial number and we can tell you when it was probably made and shipped. The box seem almost pristine, and a very nice accoutrement to the gun. It should have the serial number of the gun written on the bottom of the box, if it is original to the gun. Value is in the $650 to $750 range in most auctions. Ed.

Thanks for the info. It looks like there was a faint impression of a number maybe written in pencil at one time but I'll have to get it in better light to see if I can make something out. No other markings on the bottom of the box. For it's age the box really is in remarkable condition. The s/n is 44509.

The box is probably worth more than the gun, and if it matches the guns serial number, then Ed's estimate is entirely fair. There's a lot of these guns out there and very few have the original box.

Welcome to the Forum. Use a strong light and magnifying glass to look on the bottom of the box for a hand written number. Given recent gun/box combinations selling on gun auction sites, I think it would not be a stretch to put a $1000 plus selling price on this set.

The ship date on that gun would be 1879 - 1880.

* 1879 - 1880. By 1979 these guns were well out of production. :-)

Default S&W Model 1 1/2

Hello Forum > Just bought a first issue 1 1/2 in nickel. Serial number is low 4 digits. Plating is about 85%, minor pitting and the barrel is quite good. Wood is excellent, and I wondered what it might be worth. No box or accessories. Davy Crockett

Hard to say without seeing the gun in person. I would think your are looking at $200-$300.

You might have better luck and get more responses by starting a new thread as this one is almost a year old.
