Smile S&W Model 1 1/2 First Issue

I have a S&W Model 1 1/2 First Issue and the inscription on the top of the barrel reads: “Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass
Pat’d Apr 3, 1855 & July 5, 1859”

In most of the listing that I have seen for this model the inscription shows the first date as "Apr 3, 1859".

Can anyone verify the 1855 date? Thanks

Apr. 3, 1855, is the correct date. If you saw 1859 somewhere, it was a misprint, or was not for Apr. 3rd. Ed.

Your First Model 1 1/2 has the correct barrel address for a revolver manufactured prior to serial number 15,304. Between serial numbers 15,304 and 15,653 there was the patent date "Nov. 21, 1865" added. Neal and Jinks; revised 1975
