I just joined, mostly to find out the manufacture date of my .38 Safety Hammerless. I bought it about 10-12 years ago to use in Cowboy Action Shooting side matches -- Pocket Pistol Speed Shooting. Here are a couple of pics of the revolver, plus one of a target I shot in one such match.
The serial number is 9612, so can someone tell me about when it was manufactured?

Ship date, I dont know? But what a nice little gun that works and great
grips. Shoot and enjoy. Fan of the SH 38. Best, Mike
Thanks! The target was only 10 feet away, but I had to aim just below where the target's belt buckle would have been in order to "group" in the target's chest area! Could that be another reason they're called 'belly guns'???

That serial should make it a Second Model, which started at about #5000 in late 1887 (I think I remember) and went to about #41,000 in 1890, when the Third Model started. So yours likely falls into 1888 or thereabouts.
