In addition to Chicoine's "Gunsmithing-----" is his "Antique Firearms- Assembly/Disassembly". It tells you what the title says---but not how to fix anything. He obviously could have combined the two books into one, but his Momma didn't have no dumb kids---and you have to buy two books instead of just one. Fret not---they're both worthwhile. I haven't done a thorough analysis, but my knee-jerk impression is more guns are treated in "Antique----" than in "Gunsmithing-----". And in the for what it's worth department, Chicoine's "--------Assembly/Disassembly" is vastly superior to the NRA version (at least the version I have---which is older than dirt).
Thanks Mike and Ralph - David Chicoine is definitely the Author I was thinking of; well, that gives me two books to buy - sounds like one is more basic (Assemb/Disassemb) but covers lots of models and the other goes more into the nitty gritty. I'm thinking both would be well worth it; I knew the Brains Trust would know exactly what I was after. Well done guys!
If/when you get involved with a Model of 1902 (or prior)---the "pre 5 screw 4 screw" hand ejectors, watch out for Chicione's advice and counsel on removing/replacing trigger springs (and trigger assemblies). And by "watch out for", I mean ignore it completely, and let me know. I'll tell you a better way. Or you can go right to the source, and ask Mike Priwer---he's the one who taught me.
