Looking for my Pop, Ed Cornett. All other wizards with facts and experience also welcomed as well as anyone with like models for comparison.
I need some help to complete research on serial number / assembly number consistencies and inconsistencies.
For those supplying comparatives, please include serial number (you can xx the last 2 numbers) and location of Assembly (or fitment) numbers as seen, if any. Specify if NO assembly / fitment numbers are seen.
I am doing some research on these to pinpoint more accurately and find some cross-overs or over laps on all SN parts vs. SN & assembly numbered parts.
From American SN: 17XX to SN:270xx I have serial number / assembly number combos.
At about what serial number did the American Model start using all serial numbers instead of the prior Serial number butt, serial number stocks and ASSEMBLY codes on Grip Frame, cylinder, barrel and latch ?
NOW on to the Russians:
On Russian 1st at 276xx I have same serial number on the frame. cylinder, barrel and stocks, with a "300" assembly number also on the face of the cylinder and frame. Latch has a 3 with 00 continued onto recess of the barrel opposite side from the serial number.
This is near where I surmise the overlapping is notices, as if the factory was transitioning too ALL serial numbers only. Seems as if the machinist / builder was tying to make up his mind at this point.
What are the Model Versions (1, 2, 3) that had all serial numbers and which Versions had serial number butt & stocks, with, ASSEMBLY codes on Grip Frame, cylinder, barrel and latch ?
