Default Nice 32 Single Action

Amazed at the condition of this gun made in 1878--doesn't show any signs of having been fired.

I have a soft spot for the .32 Single Actions. I think I have picked up ten over the years. The hard part is finding a wood box that S&W made for these. The wood box is the only box manufactured by S&W in-house; not contracted out.

Edit: I'll post a few pictures of the boxes but it may be a day or two. I'm a sucker for these.

Many of these little S&Ws out there are in great condition. I believe many, if not most, were purchased to keep near the bed in a drawer and lots of them appear to be almost unfired. Those stocks indicate an early example. The intertwined S&W logo was added around 1879-1880.

Default .32 SA Wood Box Photos

Here are a few pictures of the wood boxes that I have owned. The boxes don't have labels outside nor do they have serial numbers written on the bottom as would be found on the paste board boxes. I suppose that I should say that the blue .32 SA revolvers are scarce.

The instructions inside the top for loading the arm are interesting. The first 100 or so .32 Single Action revolvers had a half-cock and the instructions said: "Half cock the arm". Since S&W never threw anything away, the next instructions had those words blacked out by over-printing a black ink rectangle on the previously printed inventory of box instructions. The revolver was now being manufactured with the rebounding hammer feature and the half-cock notch had been eliminated. The third type of instructions were printed without any reference to having to half cock the arm.

A few photos:

Default .38 SINGLE ACTION

SAAMAN,

Nice old SA... That is an early model without the strain screw.
