Default Original MOP Stocks?

I just bought this set from a LGS.

Didnt have time to check them but they look to be either for a 44 DA or a .38 Hand Ejector Model.

Im pretty sure they are made from real MOP however Im not sure about them being original SW stocks; Ive seen MOP stocks just a few times but never had a chance to study them in detail.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Newdeparture.

This thread, which I initiated in January, will prove useful to you: How to Tell Real from Fake Mother of Pearl

From their looks, I would say that the stocks you acquired are genuine. I can't speak to the issue of whether or not they are factory, but there are others here who probably can.

Those are real pearl, and they are Factory.

They appear to be for a K frame, not a 44 DA, but the difference between the two is slight. It is hard to tell exactly from a pic.

Lee is correct. They are the real deal. Around 1912 or so, S&W quit making factory pearl stocks as they said they could no longer get enough high quality pearl shells to supply the demand. Sometimes you will see original S&W factory pearl stocks, that have been fitted to a S&W, with the gun's serial number written on the back side in black ink, similar to the way hard rubber stocks were marked. This last weekend I learned from Ralph Tremaine that Smith & Wesson never made N frame pearls. Roy put it in an historian's letter to him. He had some Pearl grips on a triple lock King Target. He pointed out that the medallions on the Pearl's were from a smaller stock.

Thank you all for your help. Good to know they are genuine S&W stocks.

Ive got this from the "big box o grips" at a LGS. I went there looking for some I-frame hard rubber grips but ended up with these instead. I paid 20$ for them.

Both the SCSW and Neal/Jinks book mention these stocks but I guess I would like some more detailed information about them (if such a thing exists). Do you know of any source (book/commentary) about genuine MoP stocks, such as quantity, sizes and production years?

Thanks again

That is an awesome deal. I've sold a few pairs in the past in worse condition, it is a good way to make a decent profit and fund other ventures. Congrats on the find.
