Default I like guns in books!

Books about guns are generally a good read. Books about guns you own, such as make or model, are probably yet a better read. But how about books that feature a gun you actually own? (Stay tuned for post #3...)

Pictured is a Colt U.S. Navy Model 1861 Percussion Range Richards-Mason Conversion, mixed numbers, 6957 on frame and backstrap, 4274 on barrel and triggerguard, and 3441/6699 on cylinder.

Okay...not a Smith and Wesson, BUT pictured on page 162 of Smith and Wesson American Model, by Charles W Pate.

And here's that same firearm featured in A Study of Colt Conversions and Other Percussion Revolvers, by R Bruce McDowell.

Oh my...a Colt and pictured in a book about Colts...definitely taboo.

Okay, I think I may have (almost) redeemed myself! Here is a Shofield Second Model, serial number 4896, pictured on page 115 of Colt Single Action Army Revolver Study: New Discoveries, by C Kenneth Moore.

A Smith and Wesson, BUT in a book about Colts.

NEXT TIME I shall have to do better. Maybe a Smith and Wesson pictured in a book about Smith and Wessons.

I’m writing an action adventure novel and I’m using a lot of guns that I own or have owned in it because of the familiarity I have with them.

One that stands out that has pics of a couple is the History of Winchester Arms [1860-1980] I bought many years back. Packed with info on the models produced. love reading about the 1873-1894 models.

When my dad's mom died, we were packing up her stuff. One of her books was oddly heavy. It was cut out, and contained a S&W .32 5 shot break top revolver. Dad said "I always wondered where that went". His dad was a sheriff, and had taken it off of someone and gave it to his wife for self defense at home while he was working. Her 1858 Remington .44 was a bit smokey and unwieldy. I have it too FWIW.

Here is my one and only. Made by Frank, not Daniel, Wesson. At one time owned by Dick Littlefield, one of the authors of the three volume Frank Wesson set. Somewhere along the line, he sold it and it ended up in the hands of someone who was selling it online as a "cut down bicycle rifle."

This is one of my favorite Club Guns. It's pictured on page 232 of Neal & Jinks. It is serial number 0201. I bought it from a large auction house.

Well certainly not what I expected based on the title.

I was expecting something like this book

And this is what is under the cover

As to books that picture firearms that I own, that would be the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson

And apparently was once owned by one of the authors. Very cool...

I still only have the one that is in a book, ironically enough it's one made by the US Government, is an automatic, and happens to be in a book about Sixguns...
