I have an opportunity to acquire what I believe is a S&W Model 3 New Model Russian, serial #39362. It's a commercial model, with a triangle above the serial number with the initials "SH" inside. It has a 6 1/2" barrel with a forged front sight. The revolver only retains 5-8% of its original blue. Overall gray patina with no pitting. Bore has moderately sharp rifling, but there is light pitting throughout with a couple of small patches of moderately deep pitting. Mechanically, it's in great shape. Hinge mechanism locks up tight without any hint of looseness or wobble. Timing is dead-on with no play in the cylinder. The lockup is tight on all cylinders when cocked. This is the first Model 3 Russian I've seen in my area in over 20 years. Asking price is $1500, but they hinted that the price is negotiable. Due to an addition going on my home, my discretionary funds are so low it rules out a cash purchase, however they are very interested and willing to consider a trade for a French 7.5 MAS49/56 with an original sniper scope. I know what the rifle/scope package is worth, but I'm not sure of the revolver. My Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wessons is over 10 years old, and I don't know if there's been any movement in price. My book gives an NRA Very Good valuation at $1250. Is that value still relevant, or has it moved one way or the other? I hope the pictures are sharp enough to make an accurate judgment. The iPhone camera has its limitations. Thanks!
