Help identify S&W Top Break
S&W .38 double action top break. 5 shot, .38 S&W cartridge. Nickle. Blued trigger. Serial number appears to be 71814. Matching serial on butt and cylinder. 3 screw. Hard rubber grips. Photos attached.

Nice little early nic. DA. I like the grips. not chipped. If the bore is clean and it functions, go shoot it.

I agree with Mike. Appears to be a nice, honest, little, early .38 Double Action. Not sure on the serial number but might be antique (pre 1898).
I'm sure one of the book-guys will be along to supply an approximate ship date for you.

Your .38 DA is a 2nd Issue (or change). I don't have my books to reference but more than 100K were made. Yours looks to be in nice shape.
