Hello all, I have my father-in-laws S&W model ? Behind trigger guard shows SPA IV or SPAIM or SPAIN. Was his grandfathers pistol. Ser. 11312 on side of frame. I can't find this model, Have seen pics of some close. Thank you for any help.

Welcome to the Forum. As you might be thinking, that is not a S&W, but one of several Spanish copies made. The neat thing is that you have a family heirloom. The bad news is it is pretty much a $100 gun if you can find a buyer.

Thanks, makes sense. Will keep in the family. Thanks again, will let the father-in-law know. Any way to figure out the year?

I can only guess that it might have been made after the turn of the Twentieth Century to around WWI, maybe into the 1920s.

Gary is correct. If you can post a close up of the logo on the frame and the grip circle logo, I may be able to tell you the Spanish maker and the period of manufacture, as I have an extensive library of Spanish makers. The Eibar area of Spain has been the center of their gun manufacturing industry for two centuries, or more, producing inexpensive, but not unsafe, firearms for the world market. Ed.
