Default S&W Model 1902 Second Model ?

My lady recently inherited a S&W .38 S&W with what I think is a 3.5 inch barrel, that is blued and has original grips. I know that this is also known as the Lemon Squeezer.

The revolver is in very good condition, but the lever to open the break action is remarkably stiff.
I am not able to post photos yet, however there is a serial number....176901

Can any fellow enthusiast confirm that date from the SN?

Will post photos as soon as I get them.

Thanks to all!

Randy

It's probably from around 1904 to 1905. The tables say 1898 to 1907.

Actually, most S&W collectors do not like the Lemon Squeezer moniker. It was a term often used to with respect to cheap imitations, but in the early years, the factory was also caught using it. You actually have a 38 Safety Hammerless, 4th Model. That serial number makes the revolver a modern firearm by BATF standards, having been manufactured after 1898.

The title of your thread is a little confusing, you can go to edit and change it. Also, the 38 Safety was a top-break revolver, so belongs in the top-break section.
