Help ID an impulse buy..
Picked up a very small top break revolver today. I'm completely away from books so thought someone here might help me out. I think this is a 32 S&W Short, 5 shot cylinder and about a 3" barrel. Seems to be in very good mechanical condition, nice bore, everything works and the latch number matches the frame number. Had a $165 price tag on it so figured I couldn't go too wrong with it. Nice paper weight if nothing else.

It's a 32 Double Action, 4th Model revolver and is simply 32 S&W caliber, not short. This model was manufactured from 1883 to 1909, with about 240,000 made, so value is normally low. I forgot to add that the revolver is an antique, likely shipped in 1891 or 1892, but be prepared for a dozen more guesses.

It does seem to be in really good shape for its age. I had one similar with a longer barrel in 32 long years ago and gave it to a friend. I think I'll hang on to this one.
I did see ammo listed in 32 S&W especially for the old top breaks. I guess it's at least shootable with care.

They can be addictive, being about the lowest cost collectible S&W model on the market today. Several barrel lengths, nickel and blue, and just plain fun to shoot. Even the occasional cut barrel snub nose 32 DA revolvers are hard to pass by!

Score! Showed the gun to my neighbor and he had a set of old Lee 32 S&W carbide dies and I have a Lyman 311252 mould which was designed for this round..

rare dies
You know......Those 32 dies are pretty hard to find! I know Lee is a less expensive set of dies but that caliber is "hard to find".... You did score...

I shoot my old ones with factory 32 s&w ammo...can be found, and you are not likely to shoot them often enough for cost to be a real factor.
