Need a Little Help on These---more info on post 8
My buddy went to look at a 686 at a pawn shop and came home with this pair instead. Any help you can give me on these would be appreciated. Looking for age, model info, approximate value, and certainly any other comments by you older and wiser S&W guys are certainly welcomed. It appears this barrel and frame don't match in condition---any thoughts on this?
While this one is probably not classified as an antique, I figured one post to cover both would be better than splitting them up. Do you think these are the original grips on this one? What is the proper name/term for these grips? Is the 4" barrel right for this or an oddity? Was the 16-4 ever offered in a stainless version?
Thanks for looking and sharing any info on these.

On the 16-4, those are called Combat grips, a lot of people love them. That 4" barrel is right as rain, I'd love to have one - they were never offered in stainless.

The First gun shown is a .22 Perfected Single Shot or third model single shot, as it was also known. I have s/n 4826, which was shipped June 14, 1911 and was part of a production run of 31 units that was completed on May 9, 1911, it has an 8" barrel. They are quite collectible and have value in good condition. Your barrel may be worth more than the frame. What is the length of your barrel?
More knowlegable members may be able to give you a value, and I am sure someone will be along shortly.

The barrel on it is 10 inches and even though the picture does not show it, the blueing is beautiful.

It is not unusual for Single shot barrels to not match the frame. Competition shooters were always looking for an edge. They would modify their firearms, swap barrels, etc to gain a 1 (or more) point advantage. I had a 3rd Mod frame with a 2nd Mod 8" barrel that didn't match. They are fun shooters, and surprisingly accurate.

It turns out the barrel is 8 inch. The serial number on the barrel assembly does match the 4825. Paten dates shows Apr. 20-75, Feb. 20, Dec 18-17, May 11-80 The number 25 is also on the barrel face of the ejector. Also the barrel says Model of 01. Any more info and value info on this one?

A photo of the top of the entire barrel would help, the lug under your chamber looks like it is ground flat, not indented & flat like an actual 3rd model barrel. It is not totally uncommon to find 2nd model barrels on the early 3rd model Perfected single shots, the 3rd models were 10 inch normally.

I also have one, the perfected target model (3rd model single shot).
Mine was made in 1922, has the original 10’’ barrel with the olympic chamber. They are great guns.
