Hello all,
I haven't been on here for a bit but plan to be more active in the future. I picked up a Model 2, 2nd Model (sn9850) in non-working condition and I just need a trigger (cylinder stop) spring to make her functional. Where might I be able to find one of these? Thanks for any help.
It took awhile, but I think you are referring to a 38 Double Action, 2nd Model?? It is confusing when there was a Model 2 tip-up 32 rimfire before the 38 DA top-break. It is less confusing to collectors to use the more common term of double action. The 38 Double Action, 2nd Model was made from 1880 to 1882 in serial number range 31-22,172 so not many of this model made. The mechanism is different than any other model of 38 DA, so you will have to locate a part that will fit correctly, but I am not sure if the trigger spring is the same on a 2nd and later models?
Are you looking for a "Y" shaped spring? They are often made from spring steel stock and not too hard to do it yourself if you have a pattern. There are several Youtube videos on how to fabricate flat springs and that may be your best bet.
You might also put an ad in the Wanted to Buy section here in case one of the members might have the part you need, but there are few online sites that would have such a part. You might check out Jack First since they do manufacture some parts for vintage guns.
My bad. I should have said 38 DA. Here's a picture to help. I'll ask my gunsmith about it. He said he could get one for $20 but I thought I'd check here first. Does that sound excessive? Many thanks.
First off, it looks to me like a .32 SA CF (AKA, New Model 1 1/2 .32 CF). Second, "..I just need a trigger (cylinder stop) spring..". Those are two different springs. Can you describe the ailments of this revolver so that the proper parts might be found?
If it is a “cylinder does not lockup”? Issue? Then you must remove and replace that small spring under the belly plate. If you can get the plate off? You can make a spring. It’s a small spring. Any small piece of spring steel will work. Is the spring missing, broken or bent badly?

That is why pictures are essential when asking about any S&W!!!
