Default S&W top break with concealed hammer

38 S&W Safety Hammerless shipped 1906 shown with some of it's cousins. The S&W is 3rd down pointed to the right.

From the top:

1. Hopkins & Allen Police Safety in 38 &W with "Army Grip"

2. Harrington & Richardson snub in 32 S&W.

3. S&W Safety Hammerless

4. Harrington & Richardson "Sportsman" in 22 LR and first handgun I ever fired.

The top breaks are cheap to buy and fun to shoot. Use very mild loads because they are not strong and usually not heat treated.
Be Safe & Have fun.

The Hopkins and Allen Safety Police is an interesting revolver. They made them in both .32 and .38. Note that it is not hammerless. The hammer is cammed so it will only fire the piece when the trigger is pulled and can't fire if the hammer is struck. Thus the gun is safe with all chambers loaded. Also, the top break lock has a different design than an S&W or H&R and is more difficult for a bad guy to open and spill all the cartridges during a scuffle.

McShooty,

You're right the Safety Police is a horse of a different color and a great piece of design work.
