Default .32 Top Break Model 4 Revolver

I inherited a S&W .32 Top Break Revolver. I believe it is a Model 4. S/N is either 427510 or 427310 (see photo)

Could anyone tell me what year it was manufactured? Value?

Welcome to the Forum. Looks like 427310, to me. If it's a .32 Double Action revolver, in .32 S&W caliber, it's not a Smith & Wesson. Ser. number is too high for a .32DA. Condition looks good, some loss of plating on the barrel. Value in the $125-$175 range, if mechanics are good. What is stamped on top of the barrel rib ? Ed

Default 38 cal

Ed,
I think it’s actually a 38 cal. So a late 4th model 38 Topbreak. Post 1902. It has the caliber stamped on the barrel so it’s modern.

Murph, You're probably correct. I couldn't get the photo to enlarge to read the stamping. Ed

Welcome to the Forum. The accepted name for your revolver is 38 Double Action, 4th Model, made from 1895 to 1909. It is not a 32, but rather chambers 38 S&W caliber ammo. The antique cut-off for this model is 382,022 so your revolver is a modern firearm as classified by the BATF and is subject to all state and federal regulations regarding ownership and sales.

I agree with Ed that the number was a "3". The number "5" from that era had a curvy top, the same as a "7", but the top of that number is flat.

Thank you everyone. The gun is actually in Argentina and belonged to my grandfather originally. Is it possible that this was a police model if it was a .38? I read that Argentina was one of the countries that ordered... I'll see if I can get a better picture of the stamp on the barrel.

Default Police gun?

It's possible. The 38 Smith & Wesson was a very common gun used to enforce law and protect express goods. I would think that it would be marked in some way if it actually was a police issue gun. Argentina P. D. ?
