My 38 S&W Top Break
Hello!
I came across this gun after many years stored away. Just from looking around on the internet it appears to be a 4th model top break. The serial number is 4600xx. Would appreciate if anybody can give me an approximate date. I am thinking it might be on the cusp of being Antique. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! You are correct that your gun is a .38 Double Action, 4th Model. S&W made them from 1895 to 1909. Someone with more specific information may be able to narrow that range down for you.

Serial number 382,002 is the cutoff (1898-1899) for being an Antique.

Welcome. It looks like your revolver would have shipped around 1905. Your revolver would be considered a modern firearm by the BATF. They made about 217,000 4th Models and there were 539,000 38 DAs manufactured in all models.
