Default Collection identification and value

I picked this collection up recently to send off to Rock Island. I am reasonably certain I know what these are and the values but I would like verification from the experts.

Also curious if it's worth getting the Jinks letter for the Model 2 Army .32 with serial in the 13xx range

Your guns will most likely go into a regional or online auction

We will need more detailed images from different angles, and descriptions of their bore/chamber/mechanical condition, to be able to give value estimates.

Ditto on whether the model 2 Army would benefit from a letter of authenticity from the SWHF. An early 2-pin gun in exceptional condition would, probably.

If those were mine and I wanted to sell, I'd list them on Gunbroker, have very good and numerous indirect Natural Light out-door images, close ups of all Barrel Texts, good clear images of inside the Bores and Cylinder Chambers, clear images of Serial Numbers, ( and whether they match ) and good descriptions for how good or bad timing and lock up are.

They would do a lot better there than with Rock Island or the likes.

Is the large Frame "DA" a .44-40?

Edited to clarify - I mean to list them individually on Gunbroker, not as a jumble or winner take all.

You will be sorry if you put these in Rock Island's auction. The Model 2 is not worth a letter. It will just show it went to a distributor. Ed

Ditto on the Model 1. It's a garden variety Model 1, 3rd Issue. Worth a few hundred dollars ... which means at auction, you'll be lucky to net $150 from it.

The only moderately interesting gun is the .44 DA. But unless it's a really rare configuration, it too will end up in the regional auction, and probably in a lot with other guns.

Bottom little one looks from here to be a probable re-Blue, but good, indirect light, outdoors Images, close views, Barrel Texts etc would help us see these better.

Most of them will be lumped in with 3 to 8 other similar vintage guns in a single item and after auction fee's you won't be too happy with your results.

My take would be to offer them here to forum members at a price set by you. After they are offered here, then put the remainder on a listing site like Gun Broker. Lastly, send the remnants to an auction house like RIA.

I agree. Do some simple research and list them here for a fair price. If they don't sell in several days, lower your price just a bit. Everyone here knows what they are worth and will pay top dollar for quality.

Yes, they will be lumped together in one lot. But they won't be grouped with another seller, as the proceeds cannot be equitably divided. I am a big fan of selling on this site, but I feel Gunbroker is better if you have no idea of values.

Welcome to the Forum. Let's put all this together if I can. You have average condition antique revolvers. You can sell them yourself without an FFL needed. As I understand it, New York and California will not allow sales of antique guns without an FFL involved so just note in your description that you cannot sell to those states.

Your revolver names are as follows:

1) 44 Double Action revolver. Problem here is that with the long cylinder, it could be a 44 Russian or 44-40 caliber revolver, so find some ammo or a micrometer to determine which it is. That is very important, so check that out. The 44 DA in 44-40 would be called a Frontier. If a 44 Russian $750 and if a 44 Frontier, $850.

2) Model 2 in 32 Long Rimfire is the second revolver. This tip-up appears to only have 2 pins, so should be an early example and that adds some value to the gun. Description should include this information and add the barrel length (6") and serial number. $500 estimate.

3) 38 Single Action, 2nd Model is pretty run of the mill, maybe $400 on the best day.

4) Model 1, 3rd Issue is the nicest condition of the bunch, but there were so darn many made that values are low. There are also many in great condition, because they were not used for much and often left in a dresser drawer. My guess is $350.

You already know from others here that these are often put together and sold as a 4 gun lot. For me, that dilutes the potential and chances are that you will make what they are really worth. RIA and other large auction houses move so many guns that they do not have time to sell the lesser valued guns singly and do not forget that there is a sellers premium that will come out out of the hammer price.

For guns like this, if you are serious about selling, GB is the place to go. Start out at value that you know they will sell for and you may well be surprised at the actual selling prices. I am a firm believer that they sell for what they are worth on GB 99% of the time if you follow the advise above, starting with super detailed photographs and a very detailed description.

Nothing wrong with starting out in the WTS section on this Forum and then sell those that do not sell here on GB.

Default California Laws

With all due respect to members on this forum;

Please do not comment on California gun laws unless you are fluent in specific penal codes.

We are on fire here right now so I’m kinda stressed but I’ll try my best to be nice.

Antiques generally “ ARE” exempt here.

Both the number 2 Army and the model 1-3 are exempt from registration. NO Question!

The Frontier 44WCF and 38 single action are another matter that is specific to California Collectors only so I won’t get into details. There are actually many States that do not exempt antiques but California is NOT one of them!

Thank you!

Murph

Gary speaks the truth. RIA is a good auction house, it you won't get the value of these guns out of RIA. Listing them here, and a little elbow grease on GunBroker.com will yield you better returns.

PM me or post here a few better photos of the Model 1 if you'd like. I'm always looking to add 1's to my collection.

If you list them here, or on Gunbroker, I would be interested too.
