Default Model 2 .32 in movie

Go to YouTube. Find a Western called, Showdown at Abilene, made in 1956. Stars Jock Mahony.

Focus/freeze at 110.42 for best closeup view.

See S&W No.2 .32 in a movie. Other guns seem to be Colt SAA mocked up like Remington .44's.

Rare to see early S&W's in films.

You're welcome.

Yes.
It is rare to see anything but a Colt SAA in 50's era movies.
I enjoy looking out for other makes.

There is an interesting thread that details S&Ws used in movies, films, and television. Lot more used than I thought, but it is obvious that not anywhere all the movies are listed.

The use of Model 2, for example, only lists three movies and two of which appear to be Japanese. It does list the Shootout at the OK Corral, 1957, but not Showdown at Abilene. I also recall that the Model 2 was in some Civil War movies, but cannot remember the names.

Just click on any model listed and you will at least find some of the movies they were used in.

Smith & Wesson - Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV and Video Games

My favorite use of a S&W is Tombstone where Sam Elliott used a S&W Model 3, but there are some strange ones listed like James Spader in the Blacklist.

In the John Wayne version of Stagecoach John Carradine as the gambler Hatfield uses a Model 2 in the running fight with the Indigenous Peoples. He breaks it open to reveal one unfired cartridge and is clearly planning to use it to save a female passenger from "a fate worse than death" when the cavalry arrives.

Sorry for the spoiler but if you didn't see it for yourself in the last 80 years, YOYO.

Buford2, In the version I saw the gun Hatfield had was a break open .38 SA, 2nd model, not a Model 2 Army tip up. Ed .

There was a thread about this exact movie and gun in another forum. I found the frame and posted a screen shot, showing it was an S&W Number 2. As with most of my posts there, it was ignored and they continued to argue.

Good eyes, TS.

"..in another forum." That's why we're here; no argument it's a Model 2.
