New Model Number 3 Detachable Stock
Lately there have been quite a few detachable stocks for sale. Are there other new model 3's cut for them besides the Australian model? Recently won the auction for this one. It was refinished at some point.

Yes, there are others. A NM3 could be ordered "cut for stock" meaning the cuts to accept the reciprocal form of the stock.
I have, at least, 3 other New Model 3s (that are not Australian Colonial Police) These were ordered and letter as cut for stock that shipped internally to the us. One that I found many years back had a non-restorative refinish but mechanically good, in the very early Australian number range but without broad arrow proofs. To my surprise it shipped to a dealer in Mass. several months before Australia ever considered the NM3 / stocked.
Other model 3s were "cut for stock" starting with 608 (IIRC) American 2nd model. I have an American 2nd factory cut for stock with the stock in the white. This cut for stock A2 surely deserves a master restoration.
Also, various Russian Model 3, turkish models, also showing up lately quite a surprise, some shipped with the Japanese Navy contract NM3s.
Best Regards, Sal Raimondi, Sr.

Thanks Sal. Will need to keep my eye open for a NM3 that is cut for the a shoulder stock that I can pair this with. Looking through the 4th edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson there were several NM3's pictured that were cut for a shoulder stock. One had an 8" barrel in an unknown caliber with the longer cylinder. Another one was a 32-44 shown in the target section of NM3's.

Not familiar with the attachment details, but could that stock be used on a 320 Revolving Rifle?

Yes on some, but not all. My Revolving Rifle has the short tang. The last of the Revolving Rifles also used the short tang.

Very interesting Don, never noticed that before. Does the short tang detachable stock fit on a revolver machined for the long tang stock? Looks like yours is machined for the short tang. Does the serial number appear under the grips or on the front of the grip strap on the revolving rifle? Your serial number is so short I can't tell from the picture. Your serial number could easily be mistaken for just a scratch on the metal (just making fun because I'm jealous of your revolving rifle). Never noticed before that your grips and forearm look black instead of the typical mottled red and black.

No, the short tang won't fit. It is machined for the short tang. No 25, which was D B Wesson's has the long tang. The only place serial number 1 appears is on the butt. The grips and forearm are red, but very dark.
