Default Help with identifying/dating a New Departure 2nd Model

I have recently acquired a little gem that I believe to be a New Departure 2nd Model in nickel, all numbers matching including under the latch. It meets all the requirements as stated in the S&W Standard Catalog with one exception...there is no "+32 S&W CTG+" on the left side of the barrel. Is this normal? I believe the birth-year is 1906 +/- one year? I've posted photos and ask the experts here for help...

I think the gun was shipped earlier around 1902 or 1903. That's about the time frame S&W began stamping the caliber on the barrel. Perhaps glowe or someone else who tracks this can comment. That gun looks like it spent its life in a time warp. The plating is beautiful! Congratulations!

I would think that it shipped around 1901. Caliber stampings started around 1900, but there were probably earlier barrels still in inventory when your gun was made.

Those little pocket revolvers can become quite addictive!!!

Sorry for posting in the wrong sub-forum. My now oldest revolver to date.

I too thought it had been in a time warp. It looks better than shown by my iphone and photo skills. Found it at a gunshow because I heard it screaming "buy me". Timing and lockup feel right...no slop or play. The seller gave me a new and complete box of 85 gr Magtech made 32 S&W, the shorter kind. Is it safe to shoot?

Nice gun.
NEVER dry fire them. They break firing pins.

Red face Yet Aother ADDICTION...New Departure 3rd Model?

Got another one! This is gorgeous and in better shape the the nickeled 2nd model which started this thread. I have no idea what these are worth but they just scream "Buy Me" at the gunshow when I'm nearby. I hope the value estimates in the catalog are accurate because that is the other factor I used to determined my purchase.

All the serial numbers match and I didn't notice the number in the right grip until I reviewed the photos.

According to the catalog, the serial number (238201) equates to a 3rd Model (170000-242981) made from 1909-1937. I'm guessing it was shipped in the 1930s based on the serial number. If someone has better info, please inform.

I'm going to keep buying these and hope for a 6", a bicycle gun or maybe even a different caliber...clearly, an addiction.

The 32 New Departures, Safety Hammerless, are neat old guns. I put together a few.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd models.
