Default New gun for Christmas need help to id

38 smith and Wesson not sure what model?can someone help ID this gun. It was cheap so I picked it up as a gift to myself for Christmas spent $150. Plus tax did I do ok? locks up tight and function correctly.

Looks like a .38 Double Action 3rd Model to me made between 1884-1895

You got an excellent Deal there!

Be sure and Oil up every possible thing on it which slides, Hinges or moves..! Lord knows when the last time anyone else had.

So, as you likely know, this is ".38 S & W" ( and not .38 Special ) and this Model was intended for Black Powder Cartridges, and was not Warranted for "Smokeless".

Lovely old S & W!

I have one also, and I actually shoot very well with it, very nice small groups at ten paces.

Great looking old 38 Double Action. The currently mfg 38 S&W ammo is made in a light formula and is safe to use in these old handguns. I would not give it a large dose of them, but occasional trips to the range should be O.K.
