Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! Your .38 Safety Hammerless, 2nd Model, was made in 1887-88. Someone with a database may be able to narrow that down for you.

Welcome to the Forum. That is a well worn 38 Safety revolver!! If you intend to shoot it, make sure a complete safety check is done first. The stocks are not original, but rather from an early 38 Single Action revolver from the late 1870s. The block S&W logo was only available on early examples of that single action revolver.

Checking the S&W 38
I will be going through it completely. So far the internals look good and show very little wear or rust. The rifling in the barrel look good with no embedded rust The rifling are strong and not rounded. The gun action functions as expected with no problem and the cylinder locks up properly. The outside nickel is the only part that looks bad. The cylinder play is very slight better than I expected. I will be doing a bore check using cerrosafe to find out what size it is and also in the cylinder.
