OMG!! Australian S&W
One of the local firearms forums has an Australian contract S&W in .44 Russian with the attachment points for the shoulder stock. I have a very nice Mod.3 Navy in the same caliber with the 5" barrel. Just for fun, not having mad money to fling around, I checked it out. It's a beautiful pistol, but the seller is asking $7000. (Cdn)! Is this too wide of the mark or have high condition antiques hit this kind of price? I paid about 1/2 that for mine.

We'd have to have some good natural light images and close ups of Barrel Texts and Bore and general everything...
What is "Cdn"?
Is it Canadian Dollars?
No Issue Holsters nor Shoulder Stock with it?

Nope, just the pistol, but it's in excellent condition from the buyer's description and mechanical function is also perfect. There are no accessories with it and yes, Cdn is shorthand for Canadian dollars.

In that condition and at that price I would want a independent expert opinion on whether or not it is a refinish.
Somebody like David Carroll (known as wordsmith on the forum)

I've made a point of avoiding nickel plated firearms, so I speak from a point of comparative ignorance. That said, I've never seen a nickel plated S&W firearm of any vintage that looked like that-----unless of course the plating job came from elsewhere.

Looks like a non-factory refinish to me.

It looks very nice but I'm thinking that it has been buffed. Fitz? Mother's Mag Polish? Nice example but...

I think It is legal for Canada so that adds value in Canada.
It looks highly polished at the least.
More pics needed for further comment.

Refinished.
I agree. It's been refinished. It's hard to evaluate a gun from a single photo but I think there is nickel plating on the trigger guard. More photo's would reveal the refinish I think.

My first question is how many S&W military revolvers were nickel?? My guess is maybe a handful, maybe none.
David Carroll's opinion would be interesting, but maybe unnecessary since it looks very much like a refinish. Edges are rounded and most telltale is that the holes are dished from a buffing wheel.

I agree. The trigger guards on these guns weren't nickel plated.
$7,000 CDN is about $5,500 USD. Way too rich for my blood.

I'll tell you what folks: I'll be happy to make a secured loan to whomever wants to buy this piece, but the collateral will have to be something other than this particular item.
